California attorneys prepare to file lawsuits against Toyota on behalf of Gas Pedal Accident Victims, in Los Angeles.

Toyota's recall may be its largest in the U.S. The recall was prompted by a high-speed crash in August involving a 2009 Lexus ES350 in San Diego, California. Reports indicate that Mark Saylor, a 45-year-old California Highway Patrol officer, and three of his family members were killed when their vehicle’s gas pedal malfunctioned and hit speeds exceeding 120 mph, struck a sport utility vehicle, launched off an embankment, rolled over and burst into flames. The occupants of the vehicle made a 911 call from the Lexus and told the
911 dispatcher that the accelerator was stuck and they couldn't stop the car.

The recall includes 2007-2010 model year Toyota Camry, 2005-2010 Toyota Avalon, 2004-2009 Toyota Prius, 2005-2010 Tacoma, 2007-2010 Toyota Tundra, 2007-2010 Lexus ES350 and 2006-2010 Lexus IS250/IS350. Toyota's Georgetown, Ky., plant produces Camrys and Avalons.

AP has reported that the government indicates Toyota Motor Corp., released misleading information about an investigation into problems with stuck gas pedals which led to a massive Toyota recall government said
Wednesday, stressing the issue is still under review by federal safety regulators.

It has been reported that Toyota recalled 3.8 million vehicles last month over problems with gas pedals that got stuck on floor mats and told owners to remove driver's side floor mats and not replace them until the
automaker had determined a fix to the problem. Toyota said in a statement on Monday that NHTSA had confirmed "that no defect exists in vehicles in which the driver's floor mat is compatible with the vehicle and properly secured."

But NHTSA said that was not accurate information and the government was investigating possible causes of the acceleration problem. Removing the floor mats was "simply an interim measure" and "does not correct the underlying defect in the vehicles involving the potential for entrapment of the accelerator by floor mats, which is
related to accelerator and floor pan design."

"The matter is not closed until Toyota has effectively addressed the defect by providing a suitable vehicle based
solution," NHTSA said in the statement, which the department said was issued to correct "inaccurate and misleading information" from the automaker.

Toyota is under immense pressure to immediately correct the problem to avoid further injuries and/or deaths as a result of the faulty or malfunctioning gas pedal issue. Calls to attorneys have quadrupled with respect to California products liability cases and cases involving Toyota vehicles.

What to Do Immediately After an Auto Accident:

When a car accident happens, injuries may be severe and emotions may be high. However, there are important things that must be taken care of both at the scene of any accident and soon afterward. Following is a list of things that should be done, if at all possible, when any automobile accident occurs.

~ Stay at the Scene. The cardinal rule for all car accidents is that you should never leave the scene until it is appropriate to do so. If you leave the scene of an accident, particularly where someone has sustained injuries or was killed, you can face serious criminal penalties for being a "hit-and-run" driver.

~ Make sure to obtain all pertinent information from the other party(s) involved in the accident (i.e. license plate number, drivers license number, address, telephone number, insurance information).

~ ALWAYS look to see if there was any individual who may have witnessed the accident and obtain there contact information.

~ Furthermore, if you have a camera in your car (or a camera phone) make sure to take plenty of photos of the scene and vehicles involved.

~ Call the Police. Especially if the accident involves significant property damage, physical injury, or death, you may need to call the police. Ask that a police report be filed in situations where law enforcement officers do arrive at the scene, and obtain the name and badge numbers of any responding officers.
